About

Stories from SFM is a student publication produced by the School of Future Media at The University of Hong Kong. Everything here is reported, written, photographed and edited by students.

What we publish

Original reporting, mostly local. We are interested in stories that need somebody to go and look at something, ask people questions, and check what they are told. We publish features, news, and photo essays. We do not publish opinion pieces or press releases.

How a story gets here

Every article on this site has been through the same process. A student writes a draft. It is line edited by an instructor, who marks changes and asks questions directly on the page. The reporter answers those questions, revises, and sends it back. Nothing publishes until the questions are resolved.

That means the process is slow. A typical piece takes about ten days from first draft to publication. We think that is the right trade.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we want to know and we will say so. Corrections are noted at the foot of the article, with the date and what changed. We do not quietly edit published work.

Contact

Story tips, corrections, and questions can go to the editors. Students interested in writing for the publication should speak to their instructor rather than pitching here.
